Mason Rudolph Named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week

first_imgTo the surprise of nobody besides maybe Baker Mayfield’s parents, Mason Rudolph was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week this week after his 497-yard, 5-TD performance against Pittsburgh over the weekend. The senior set a new school record for yards in a half (423) and tied Josh Fields’ record with 5 TDs in a half as well. His 497 yards are the third-most in school history behind his own 540-yard performance last year against Pitt and the 502 Brandon Weeden put up against Kansas State in 2011.The list goes on. Rudolph set a new record for consecutive attempts without an INT with 216 before he tossed one in the third quarter on Saturday. He had more passing yards in 3.5 quarters on Saturday than Notre Dame, Georgia, Arizona, Arkansas, Michigan State and Florida have on the season.“Honestly, I didn’t even pay attention to those statistics,” Rudolph said on Saturday of his performance. “I knew they scored a lot. But no, usually it flows like that. Sometimes there will be some sputtering drives, but the coaches on the offensive line are making the right calls and making us run up front. We were protecting our butts and making that block for Justice [Hill] today. That one-two punch with J.D. [King] was something serious and it’s cool to watch.”This is Rudolph’s fourth weekly Big 12 honor in his career. Here are all 32 attempts from Saturday if you want to re-live his elite performance.
