first_imgWith all the eyes fixed on the glittered Indian Super League (ISL), I-League decided to serve one of the most exciting finishes to a league to snatch away the attention. The ongoing 2017-18 season is set for a dramatic finale like never before, even the All India Football Federation (AIFF) wasn’t ready for such down to the wire stuff and had to reschedule the final round of fixtures to give all the contenders equal chance.On Thursday, the final day of the league, four contenders across three matches will vie for trophy. Minerva Punjab FC, Neroca FC, Mohun Bagan and East Bengal are all in contention to lift the I-League trophy.Table toppers Minerva will take on ninth-placed Churchill Brothers, while Neroca will travel to Kolkata to face East Bengal. Mohun Bagan will face Gokulam Kerala at Kozhikode. All the matches will be played at 3 PM to ensure a level playing field.Here’s how the I-League table currently looks like. The club only need a win on the final day to win their first I-League title. In case of a defeat or a draw, the Punjab side will have to depend on favourable results from other two matches. And, they will have to hope that Minerva lose their game against Churchill Brothers. A draw will not be enough for NEROCA as they lost both their matches against Minerva this season and in case of a draw, Minerva will win the title, even if they lose their match against East Bengal.advertisement Photo Credit: AIFFMohun Bagan (30 points)The Kolkata club will face Gokulam on Thursday and it’s a must-win game for them to lift the title. But along with a victory they will also hope that Minerva lose their game and NEROCA either lose or earn a draw. But they will also need Minerva and Mohun Bagan to lose their games.ADDITIONAL SCENARIOIn one scenario three teams can end with 33 points – if Minerva draw their game against Churchill, Bagan beat Gokulam and East Bengal pick up a win against NEROCA. In such a case, Bagan will lift its second I-league trophy as cumulative points collected from four fixtures will be taken into account.Bagan has seven points with a double over East Bengal and a draw against Minerva. Minerva has picked up five points (win and draw against Bagan and another draw against East Bengal) whereas East Bengal has managed only four (win and a draw against Minerva).last_img
